NYC Bound...Guaranteed Jobs....Think again!

I have been told this many times this month...."We will go to NYC this summer to work, but only if we are guaranteed jobs". It just doesn't happen this way.

The only way you are guaranteed a job is if you are booked directly...this means without attending a casting or audition, you were booked from your card or headshot. You can then fly to NYC for the job and then fly home. Some things to consider with direct bookings in NYC...will the money you make cover your plane ticket, hotel, and expenses? The client normally does not cover these expenses.

When deciding whether you wish to pursue a summer in the city working as a model or actor, know that there are expenses and nothing is guaranteed....but you have a better chance of being booked while in NYC rather than sitting home in South Georgia. An apartment for two months will cost around $6,000, factor in the plane ticket there and home, cab and subway fees, living expenses, and if you plan to see any shows while there normally equals around $10,000. You can always split the apartment costs and your expenses will drop down to around $7,000. Can you make this in NYC during the 6-8 week stay...YES....is it guaranteed....NO! You may get there and only get one casting or go-see per week or you may arrive and go on 3 to 4 a day. No one knows. Not even the agencies or casting directors. They are waiting for the phone to ring just as you are. Remember, they want you to book. When you book, they make money, you make money, everyone is happy. And whoever started the rumor that if an agency wants you, they will pay your expenses is mistaken and has spread the rumor far too long. It simply is not the case. There are model's apartments, however, the rent is being added to your account as an advance. As soon as you book a job, the agency will be paid first and then you will get the remainder.

I've always told our models and actors that it is a learning experience and definitely a life lesson. It is putting all of your dreams out there, and pursuing them. It is an adventure. Being in the city is unlike anywhere else. It is a gamble, for sure. But I can guarantee this...you will get more castings in NYC during the summer than you will ever get while here in Valdosta. That experience will help you as you develop yourself as a model or actor in this market when you return.

One thing is for sure..I promise to be there by your side every step of the way via phone, text or skype. You are not alone while you are there. Dream Big!

We are closed for our Annual Summer Break beginning Monday May 30th through Friday, June 3rd.

June's Broadway Camp begins Monday, June 6th and takes the place of June's classes.

July's Broadway Camp begins Monday, July 11th and takes the place of July's classes.

If your child has opted to remain in classes rather than attend camp, please schedule a class time with me ASAP. We are open for private lessons on Tuesdays in June & July.

Remember, to stay active with AM&T & to avoid the Annual Registration Fee, your child must either attend one of the Broadway Camps, or attend classes in June or July.

Campers will be divided into groups according to age, and will learn scenes from

"The Wizard of Oz" &

"The Wiz".

The week will end with a group performance for parents and friends on Friday, June 10th at 7pm.

Our special guest will beJAYME PERVIS from the J PERVIS TALENT AGENCY

Join us JUNE 6th through JUNE 10th from 8:30am to 12:30pm each day. Early Drop-Off is available beginning at 8:00am. Each STAR will need to bring his/her own snack each day.

The camp is available to ages 3 to 18.

Along with AM&T instructors, we have added camp instructors from Albany, GA and they are AMAZING!

Camp will be at Valdosta High School's "Performing Arts Center"

More Info	Our Broadway campers will be exposed to the triple-threat experiences of the musical including ACTING, SINGING and DANCING...all taught within a one-week camp. Broadway Camp will introduce young people to the world of life on-stage and behind the scenes. REHEARSAL SCHEDULE for this WEEK:

MONDAY 5:30pm -7:00pm "MEN in BLACK" group
TUESDAY 5:30-7:00pm "BLACK CATS" group (Savannah, Chloe, Binks, Brianna W, Lilly, Delainey and Chesley)
WEDNESDAY 5:30-7:00pm "COTTON EYED JOE" and "GREASE".
THURSDAY 5:30pm-7:00pm "SMOOTH CRIMINAL", "VOGUE", and "ANGELS"
FRIDAY 6:00pm-8:00pm "DRESS REHEARSAL" for EVERYONE at CENTER STAGE DANCE in LAKE PARK. This is the ONLY rehearsal this week at Center Stage. All other days will be at the Studio.
SATURDAY: 10:30am-12pm: FINAL RUN THROUGH of ENTIRE SHOW (Valdosta High School's Performing Arts Center)
SATURDAY: 5:00pm: ALL models and actors are to report to Valdosta High School's Performing Arts Center to get dressed. Doors will open to the public at 6:15pm. The show begins at 7:00pm.

I think I have told most everyone this information, but just in case...here it is in print. Please re-read as some things have been added or edited.

BLACK CATS group: Black leotard (short sleeve), black full tights (over feet), and I have the black tails. If the girls will feel more comfortable in black sophie shorts, or a black dance skirt, let me know. I think they have all of this at Target.
GREASE group: If your child has a poodle skirt, white shirt, and saddle oxfords, please wear it. If not, please wear a white short sleeve shirt or white button down oxford with jeans rolled up and everyone's hair in a pony tail. Saddle Oxfords can be made by getting white tennis shoes from Payless or Royal Boutique and painting the sides black. Please also wear white socks.
The boys: Parker, Drey, Landon, Payton, and Micajah will need to wear black pants, black shirt, black shoes and white socks. (same as Men in Black).
VOGUE group: Same as December: Black leggings, Sparkly silver or white tank, black blazer, and black boots/shoes.
COTTON EYED JOE group: If your child does not have a Country/Western Wear that they would like to wear, your child will model an outfit from Boots Too (including the boots). Please bring your clothes to Wednesday class this week!
SMOOTH CRIMINAL: Black pants, white socks, black shoes (converse are completely fine), white button up long sleeve shirt, and suspenders. They have suspenders at Royal Boutique on the $1.00 table as soon as you walk inside. The black pants will be rolled up to show the white socks.
WHEN DOVES CRY: Same as December: White or silver sparkle tank, white leggings, silver or clear heels, wings and tutus. We have the wings and the tutus.
MEN in BLACK: Black pants (long leggings or jeans are fine), black boots or black shoes. Converse are fine. Black short or long sleeve plain tshirts, and black blazer/sports coat. If you do not have a black blazer/sports coat, wear a black jacket or a black long sleeve plain tshirt.
THRILLER (Finale): Everyone will wear their last outfit of their last performance. Several of the older models and actors are in two or three, so whatever you have on in the last performance, you will wear in Thriller.
INTRODUCTIONS and MODELING the RUNWAY: Wear an outfit of choice. Anything goes. Anything is fine. We will not approve outfits. It needs to be the model's decision. Everyone understands we are classy, not trashy :)
PARENT/CHILD RUNWAY: You may coordinate your outfits, or you can wear whatever you feel best in. Some will have themes. Some will not. Anything goes as this is a fun event. We want our parents on stage! This will happen after Introductions and Modeling the Runway, so it may be easier to keep the child in the same outfit....just a tip :)
QUESTIONS? Let me know please! Sometimes when you ask other parents, your child is not in the same group, and you may not receive the correct information.

Every model/actor must pay the $35 Recital Fee to be included in the show. Currently, only 17 have paid their Recital Fees. There is a convenient PAY BUTTON on our website under Payments at www.amandasmodels.com.

This Recital Fee applies to EVERYONE. No one is exempted from paying this fee. It is expensive to produce this show and this is a small fee compared to dance recital fees, Nutcracker fees, Costume fees, etc.

For those of you who are new to AM&T, our event on December 18th is not a little recital, nor is it a play.
It is a GRAND PERFORMANCE.
The event was almost sold out last year.
Each year, it is better than the year before.
It is an opportunity for our models and actors, singers and dancers to shine like the stars they are.
Each year, we have a theme.
This year, the theme is the movies of the 1980's.
We are encouraging the audience to dress the part as well. Every model will wear an outfit of choice and model the runway after introducing themselves.
We will present a slide show of this year's events.
Then, we will begin the presentation. This is the first year we have incorporated skits into the presentation.
Each group class is performing a skit from the movie, and then a modeling and dance routine.
We incorporate dance and singing as a way to build self-confidence and expressions on stage.
We invite agents as our guests each year.
This is a really BIG event, and it is the most important event to me as the owner of AM&T.

The Valdosta Daily Times has asked us to shoot the Christmas Fashion Layout on Monday so it will run in this Sunday's newspaper.

If you are available, please reply to this email ASAP with your current clothing sizes.

Only CURRENT AM&T MODELS & ACTORS are permitted to model in the Layout.

All Teen and Tween Models will need to have their hair curled, light makeup, zero eye liner, and dressy prom type shoes.

All Children will need to have their hair fixed, light makeup, zero eye liner, and bring a bag of shoes, tights, leggings, accessories.

Everyone will need to be at AM&T between 3:45pm and 4pm tomorrow, on MONDAY NOVEMBER 22nd.
We will get dressed at the studio and then travel downtown for the pictures. After the pictures, we will then travel back to the studio where you will carefully hang back up each piece of clothing, get it checked back in by Miss Amber, and then leave.

No food or drink is permitted in the studio tomorrow or while wearing the clothes.

If your child has been running a fever, please do not reply to this email and please do not attend tomorrow. I am currently in the hospital with Pneumonia. Both Pneumonia and the Flu are now going around Valdosta. We all need to stay well! Busy weeks are ahead for AM&T.

Hello!

Congratulations to all of the Models & Actors who participated in the Halloween/Fall Festival Costume Fashion Show at the Valdosta Mall today!

You all were FABULOUS!! I am SO proud!! It was so much FUN!!

The pictures are posted on my Facebook Page.

We have been asked to do the very same Fashion Show again in a few weeks. Details to follow.

Let's all remember a few rules for Fashion Shows since we have three scheduled between now and the end of the year:

Only one parent and the model/actor are permitted backstage. Please do not bring siblings, guests, etc. backstage. Most of our models/actors leave their valuables in the dressing room during the show and we need these items protected, as well as the clothes from the stores. At the Back to School Fashion Show, I had $50 cash stolen from Kaileigh's Model's Bag. If we see additional people backstage, we will ask your guests to leave.
If you are late, you will not model. It is just too difficult to stop everything to make arrangements for those who decide to arrive 15 minutes before show time.
Food and Drink are NOT permitted while you are wearing the clothes you are going to model. Food is not permitted in the dressing room period.
Gum is NEVER permitted at any AM&T functions.
We often have parents (AM&T's Angels) helping with our events. Please respect them as you would Amber and me.

Keep up the great work!! You all make AM&T is the PLACE to BE!!!

We have been invited to produce and direct a Halloween Themed Fashion Show at the Valdosta Mall.

We will have a Rehearsal at 9:30am Center Court of the Valdosta Mall. If you have been in at least two fashion shows, you do not have to attend the Rehearsal. If you have been in one fashion show or if this is your first, Rehearsal is Mandatory.

Please make sure you bring your shoe bag to the Rehearsal.

The Fashion Show begins at 2pm. Everyone will need to return to the dressing room by 1:00pm to get ready for the show.

If you are receiving this email, you are invited to model in the show. We need our actors too! This is a theatrical fashion show. We want you all to act the parts you are playing. It will be SUPER FUN!!

The passing of my Aunt Debbie has been very difficult this week. She was more like my second mother than just my Aunt. I know she is celebrating in Heaven with her husband, Fred, but I will miss her here with us.

WAY TO GO EVERYONE!!

Hello!

Congratulations to everyone who attended the Open Call on Friday night and to everyone who attended the Jayme Pervis Workshop on Saturday morning and to everyone who attended the Barry Shapiro Workshop on Saturday afternoon.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Smoke n' Pig BBQ Fundraiser to earn money to attend this weekend's workshops. I am SO proud of you all!! You proved that if you want something for your child, you will make it happen. It was the easiest fundraiser we have ever produced. Elizabeth Steedley sold 86 plates and Amy Booth sold more than 70 (I cannot remember the exact number but I do know 60 were for Delivery!). Most everyone else sold between 20 and 50!! YOU ALL ROCK!

I want to thank you all for your support. Jayme and Barry coming to our agency was a really big deal to AM&T. To have 54 people attend the Open Call and to have 28 in both workshops on Saturday speaks volumes for our agency. It shows that you are serious about your child's potential in this industry and you are serious about increasing their self-confidence in every way possible. It showed you support our agency and that means everything to Jayme. As you heard her say....if you do not support us, she won't support you! Love Jayme!! :)

I have her notes and will be sending those out beginning tomorrow.

Amber and I hope to bring in more agencies from major markets for Open Calls such as CFT in Orlando, Karen Greer Agency in Miami, Elite/Factor in Atlanta. We want you all to have every single opportunity to succeed. We are also going to attend The Arts Convention in June. We will be doing several Smoke n' Pig Fundraisers, as well as The Mother Daughter Tea in May to help everyone who wants to attend....attend.

I was beyond proud that are pictures are not only approved, but LOVED by J Pervis Talent. We are back to shooting on Sundays again. It is amazing to me that our special lighting is God's lighting in our studio garage. Be sure to come in to the runway room this week to see the pictures on the wall!

I am sharing this very special email from Ben's mom, Traci.

WAY TO GO BEN!!!

Benjamin just booked two commercials in the last month & shot one today for the AE Madden video game. I've been thinking about you, as I always do when he has any type of success.

He's literally at 98% call back since Jan 1 & has been on hold for testing for 5 pilots, never quite making it to testing. So our faith is strong that it's just a matter of time and we try to enjoy the process, crazy as it is We agree not to try to make "sense" out of "nonsense" or we'd drive ourselves crazy. You can't apply common logic to any of this :)

He is thriving here in every way and he knows this is the place for him. He told me recently-if you're going to do this you can never doubt yourself- it's a process and you just have to stick with it. One day it will be the right time for me.

Thanks for all your prayers, support, and for encouraging him to follow his dreams. I think about both of you often and how you've blessed our family so much! Had we not met you none of this would be possible.

Lights, Camera, Action...Broadway Camp..will introduce young people to the world of life on-stage and behind the scenes. Training in acting, scene study, improvisation, solo and ensemble singing, movement and dance make up the class work.

The ground is going to be too wet to shoot even if it does stop raining between 1 and 3pm....as the trusted weatherman says.

We are reshooting Tuesday through Friday this week in Hahira. We are booking appointments first come, first serve. We are shooting at 4pm, 4:30pm, 5pm and 5:30pm each day.

Hello AM&T,

We are so excited about the "Peace, Love & Runway" Fashion Show this Friday. The proceeds will benefit The Children's Advocacy Center of Lowndes County".

The rehearsal is Thursday from 5pm-8pm and is Mandatory! We understand a few will be late due to work schedules but please make every effort to be on time.

We need everyone to please turn in their ticket money Thursday. It was mandatory for the 5 tickets to be sold.

This is a really special fashion show for us and we hope you will enjoy it as well. It is will be different than other shows of the past.

There are Vendor Tables for purchase. If you know anyone who owns a business who would like to sell their items or advertise, the tables are only $25.00.

If you have not had a picture taken of your Outfit of Choice, please bring it tomorrow evening to the rehearsal.

Parents will need to be there for special announcements at the beginning and end of the rehearsal. Please make sure your children have something to eat before the rehearsal. :) Bring homework! You will have time to work on it in between practices.

I also want to thank you all for your support of AM&T and our staff. They have really worked so hard. It will be four weeks on Friday since the accident and I think my staff is truly amazing , and I have been so blessed with such wonderful students and parents. You all have been so sweet this entire four weeks! Only eight more to go! We can do this together!!

I am still on Cloud Nine from the Fashion Rocks Michael Jackson Show! WOW! Everyone really did an amazing job. I am so thankful for my staff and the parents who helped! The videos should be ready by the end of January and I CANNOT WAIT!

We have a busy beginning to 2010 planned. Mark your calendars! February 12th and 13th...we have PEACE, LOVE & RUNWAY show planned at Valdosta High School's Performing Arts Center.

Parents,

We have decided to change the practice times to 5:30pm until 7:30pm. Parents need to be there at 5:30pm for a brief meeting and will need to return at 7:15 to pick up your child on time. We must leave the auditorium at 7:30pm.

FRIDAY REHEARSAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!

Parents,

Friday's rehearsal is MANDATORY and is a DRESS REHEARSAL. They will NOT wear their outfit of choice. They WILL wear their Michael Jackson outfits. Parents are invited to stay for the rehearsal. We have a special cake for their hard work. We are also going to order Pizza and have drinks. If your child would like to participate, please send $2.00 for the pizza and drink.

DECEMBER TUITION and RECITAL FEES REMINDER!!

We have a list of those who still owe December Tuition. If you are participating in the recital, you must pay tuition. It does not matter whether you have attended class this month. We have reserved your time slot and it is yours. This year's presentation is dedicated to celebrating the music from The King of Pop...Michael Jackson.

We do have a Recital Fee. This year, the fee is $30.00. The fee covers the extra expenses associated with the presentation from rehearsal space rental to production. Each family will receive 2 complimentary admission tickets.

We will also give each student 10 tickets to sell. The person who sells the most tickets will receive a free photo shoot and 50 comp cards. The next highest will receive a free photo shoot. And the third highest will receive a free month of tuition. We want a full house and hope you will help us reach this goal! A portion of the ticket sales will benefit The Make a Wish Foundation.

We always give to others this time of the year. We ask that each student bring either a canned good or an unwrapped toy to be donated to needy families in our area through Black Crow Media and Toys for Tots.

We have made a few exciting changes to our Lights, Camera, Action Camp for July and it is time to REGISTER!

Our Broadway campers will be exposed to the triple-threat experiences of the musical including ACTING, SINGING and DANCING...all taught within a one-week camp. It is a theatrical crash coarse for kids and teens.

Lights, Camera, Action...Camp of Broadway Dreams..will introduce young people to the world of life on-stage and behind the scenes. Training in acting, scene study, improvisation, music theory, solo and ensemble singing, movement and dance make up the class work. Triple threat workshops will give one-on-one instructions in singing, dancing, and acting.

If your child has ever dreamed of being on Broadway one day or just enjoys being the center of attention and the joy of being on stage or needs to boost their self-confidence, this camp is for your child!!

The 17 hour camp also includes a photo shoot, and each participant will receive their own headshot. Campers will learn scenes from Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Legally Blonde and Grease. The week will end with a group performance for parents and friends.

This is a perfect RESUME BUILDER!

Join us JULY 6th through JULY 10th from 9am to 12:30pm each day at Valdosta High School Performing Arts Center. Please send a snack for your camper each day!

No, I am not remembering a fond time long ago at a summer camp when I was 12.

Never have I been one for getting up and dressed at 6:30am but I actually look forward to seeing the 90 smiling faces walk through the door. Our instructors: Miss Aldine, Mr. Blake and Miss Kelsey have been amazing. We are learning in one week what would normally take two months to accomplish but we never do anything small!! EVER!

We met today to begin planning our July camp. Oh to have a bigger studio....we could do this all year long! As I always say...DREAM BIG!!

Amber loves working for Barry Shapiro in NYC and is learning so much!

Ashley and Morgan are settled in to their apartments and already hit the ground running with several requests and auditions. Ashley is on hold for JCrew right now.

Brianna and Mary Margaret will arrive this weekend and Nicholas will arrive on the 15th!

Blake will be going on the 13th and he cannot wait to work with Natasha.

We have 80 enrolled for Lights, Camera, Action Broadway camp and we are SO EXCITED!!!

Interview attire can be church-dress to business attire. Teeny, Tiny, Petite and Little Miss Contestants may wear long or short dresses. Junior, Teen and Miss Contestants must wear a long dress. There is an Optional Patriotic Wear category.

Hospitality Queen: The title will be given to the contestant who raises the most money for The Make a Wish Foundation. She will receive a round crown, 4 foot trophy, custom banner, trip to Orlando/Daytona, crown pin and goody bag. You may begin collecting your money now.

People's Choice: There will be an Overall winner in each age division. The winner is determined by the number of votes each person receives, each vote is $1.00. You can start working on this before the pageant and also cast your votes at the Admission's table the day of the pageant. The winner will receive a trophy, sash, and crown. All People's Choice money is donated to The Make a Wish Foundation.

Prizes Include: A beautiful Crown, Red/White & Blue Sashes, trophy and $100 Savings Bond Scholarships to all winners, Trophies for runner--ups and each contestant.

Overall Winners will receive a trip to Daytona/Orlando. Contestants must enter all optionals to be considered for Overall! There will be a Mini Overall (Birth to 8 years old) and Grand Overall (9 to 23 years old).

Admission: The admission at the door will be $6.00. One parent will get in free per contestant. Everything you consign should look new! Outdated items will not accepted.

Tagging Instructions: Email Amanda Kirk for a sales code (which will be your first and last initials, followed by a three digit number). Be sure to email all of the following information: Name, cell phone, home phone, email address, and home address. Amanda will email you back with an assigned code. You will get a new sales code each show date (yes, we intend to do this more than once!)
The following instructions are very important. Please read carefully!

Your tags must be on a 3x5 index cards. Please do not use regular paper and cut it to size. Your clothes must be clean (tanning stains are OK as long as they are not visible on the outside of garments). Please use appropriate sized hangers. Two-piece outfits should either be safety pinned together, or placed on two hangers and the hangers are attached by a rubber band. We have no idea which piece goes with what should they get separated! Pants should be securely hung with safety pins as well. Please do not drape folded pants over a hanger and expect them to stay on a hanger.
On your 3x5 tags, your sales code will go in the upper right hand corner. In the middle of the card, please have the item description, size and price. If you do not want your item to go ½ price, put ND in big, bold letter on the tag. Fasten the tag to your item with a straight pin (NO safety pins). Shoes must be in Ziploc bags and securely taped with the tag secured inside the bag. Jewelry must be sealed in bags and tags taped to the bag.

Maximum 50 pcs. You will make 75% of the sales price, less a $10 participation fee. We are not responsible for fire, theft, accident or damage. NO refunds or Exchanges. Cash only (except Consignors: we will accept checks from the consignor). Please make all checks to AM&T.

Consignors will receive payment in the form of CHECK or CASH when items are ready for pick-up.

The Southeast Model & Talent Showcase was a huge success!

The event was sponsored by Black Crow Media Events, The Holiday Inn, Arrow Screenprinting, US Press, Anytime Fitness, Prudential Real Estate Services, AM&T and Pearl Executive Shuttle.

The visiting agents included Elite Atlanta and Chicago, New York Model Management (NYC) and MMTA (Birmingham & Atlanta), Barry Shapiro of Herman-Lipson Casting (NYC), Dave Marken with Opening Night Entertainment (NYC), Natasha Mattallano of Product Model Management (NYC), CFT of Orlando (Jackie Hazen and Stephanie Bowen), and Beverly LaChance of B&B Talent (Atlanta). Tyler Perry Studios will receive cards and headshots on all participants.
